Team Siver has taken a couple more steps towards completion over the last couple of days. The Sidebars I ordered from VanStyle arrived nicely packaged and wrappe so Wednesday night I was able to fit them. Unlike the previous sidebars I had on Team yellow these come with cross member supports which reach under and across the van.

So since the last update I have suffered a memory card blow out on my camera phone and this has meant that I have lost a large number of photos showing the development of the inside once the carpeting had been completed. This is a bit of a shame as I had hoped to discuss my experiences of installing Ikea cabinets and the like.

This was the best day so far. Today I got the GF involved and we installed the roof panel including the lights.
My previous conversions have had a simple audio system setup of 4 standard speakers with a single 12″ subwoofer driven by a Fly Amp. However the new conversion does not suit a single 12 so I am having to rethink and redesign. So the following shows the efforts involved in getting 8″ SubWoofers and 5″ Component Mid Range drivers into rear door panels.

The process of choosing a RnR bed is a difficult one as demonstrated by the recent thread on the vwT4forum. I’m not going to go it here needless to say I cannot afford an OEM one and neither do I require one given the frequency that I carry passengers. For me it was a toss up between the Bluebird version and the one made by Cannons Forge. I chose CF on the basis that the seat belts attach to the Bed and not the van sides.

So next job was to get the floor insulated so the ply can be laid. I had problems here. The 9mm ply just wasn’t strong enough to use batterns under the floor. I had planned to use wool and then an aluminium foil and foam composite. As it was I just ended up removing the batterns and wool just using the aluminium stuff. I’m thinking I’ll be grateful for the coolness anyway.
I have started the process of insulating and I never really made up my mind as what was BEST or the way to do it. I had to make a decision otherwise the van would never get done. Insulation has been a two step process: 1) Sheeps wool produced by Black Mountain and sourced from Encon who have depots throughout the country; and 2) Aluminium Bubble Wrap from B & Q.

So today after school I finished fitting the flashing tape. I didn’t really follow the instructions and just slapped it on. Main reason for application here is to dampen sound and road noise. The Waxoyl should protect against condensation. Anyway – jobs a good’un. Cost 6 x 100mm x 10m rolls of No-nonsense flashing tape approx £50
So after much deliberation and thought the ordered carpet arrived from Mark @ MegaVanMats. It arrived really well packaged and is exactly what I was expecting – bargin. I must give notice to all the other peeps who sent me samples: Rainbow Conversions; Martrim; CMC and T4World whose both got lost in post; and finally TotallyT4 who don’t do samples!

What you see is: 8metres of Anthracite carpet; 3 metres of semi perforated black vinyl; 10 tins of spray adhesive; and some really nasty liquid stuff. Mark has also be superb enough to send me some mock-ups of van mats with yellow edging so I can check it out against the beast!
