In this recent development we rebuilt a client website from Joomla 1.5 into WordPress. It uses two custom plugin types for energy price data (graph produced using google visualisation) and to provide a automatic login link to their client data system; provides a jQuery slideshow on the homepage with quotes from their clients; and has a contact form with captcha and validation.

WordPress Custom Post Types.

So recently I had need to develop some WordPress Custom Post Types – something that was new to version 3.0 and not to be confused with post-formats (aside and gallery). Custom Post Types are really useful if you have a collection of data that doesn’t fit well into post, pages, attachements or revisions (the standard types) or if you are going to have so many of one format/type you’d like to organize them into one section. I’ve recently used them to produce Routes and Beaches sections on my under-developed blog and have used them here on this site for the project portfolio – I guess you could say I’m a convert! Anyway, as always not one website I looked at during the development section had all the information I wanted so I ended up scrabbling around to build the pieces up into something that worked. Annoyingly, I didn’t record those sites I used initially to help me so sorry (and huge thanks) to my ‘custom wordpress post’ forefathers who went before me. This is what I did…

Version 3.00 of the Web Ethical Windguru WordPress Plugin is now available to download for free from our Windguru plugins page.  This version is made for WordPress v.3.1.3 and now has an integrated user interface and installs without the need to do anything through ftp.
