My teaching career began at Deer Park School on a combined GTP/PGCE programme. I was accepted onto the GTP program because of my previous experience as a climbing instructor. From day one I had sole responsibility for a number of key stage three classes and one key stage four GCSE group.
CDPS teachers offered one on one student academic mentoring and I learnt about targeting individuals, assisting them to focus on aspects of their education and how they could improve their performance.
At CDPS I ran a successful Visual Basic club with 10 to 20 pupils attending. Students worked on their own projects whilst learning basic programming theory. As a qualified climbing instructor and trained mountain leader, I organised trips including a rock-climbing course for a challenging group and Yr10 residential trips to the Brecon Beacons. While I was working at CDPS I also completed my PGCE with the University of Gloucestershire.
