Vantage Vue on Mac Mavericks (10.9)

Ok, so after failed attempts to get a replacement anemometer working on WX2350 I have invested in a Davis Vantage Vue from ProData.  Before moving to the Synology box I decided to get the station working on my Mac (OSx 10.7) with Weather Link – might as well I have paid for it!

Initially it would not work but then a bit of searching around suggested that I upgrade the driver for the USB to Serial Convertor.   Based on the information here I was able to use my Mac OSx and the system_profiler SPUSBDataType command to find out that this was the Davis Vue WeatherLink

Once the driver was updated to the latest version it would appear that my station is running on

and I am able to use the station via WeatherLink

Next step was to get the Vue and Weewx 2.5.1 talking on the Mac.  I had already had a version running as a simulator so I knew everything was installed.  Rather than use any of the suggested tty ports I entered  /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART into the config file.

Now I was ready to run weewx which immediately launched into life.

Now armed with confidence I’m off to try and install it on the Synology Box.

  1. Note from Mark@Weewx

Make a note that if you reset your USB connection for any reason, the device will show up on /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART2, with the trailing numeral incrementing by one each time it is reset. I haven’t found a straightforward workaround analogous to Linux udev rules and symbolic links.

    Thanks Mark!
